AMEX Blue and online CL increase

I've had a AMEX Blue since 08-02 with a CL of 2000. I've made monthly payments in the range of 200 to 300 dollars and just recently paid of the 920.00 balance. I also have an AMEX Business Gold and charged things on it for about two months and paid it off each month(required). AMEX said I'd have to wait for 6 mos. after I was issued my card to request an increase. I've read on here that AMEX will give substantial increases if you pay more than you are required. Is this so and if I request an increase online, will they pull another hard or not? An input would be greatly appreciated!

You will be denied if your increase request (online or otherwise) occurs:

    1. After the first 30 days of opening the account

    and

    2. before 6 months after opening the account and within every 6 month interval thereafter.

I have never seen an exception to this rule with AmEx.

I understand the 6 month time limit. If you are past the six month time limit, do they pull a hard or soft inq. when you ask for the increase online or do they go by your payment history? The online increase option also asks you what you want your new limit to be. Has anyone had any experiance with any magic numbers with AMEX, like, will asking for a 5000 CL when you have a 2K line be more likely to be approced than asking for a 6K CL or whatever limit? Thanks again!

Check online if your account does qualify for any balances transfer. My brother also have a 2000 limit on his Blue and the page say that the limit will be raise to 12000 if he transfer some balance. The rate will be 4.9%. They also charge a 3% transaction fee/max $50.
