I recently applied for AMEX Blue, but was denied. (I know my credit score as of 8/22- the day I applied- was 694.) The reasons for denial included:

    -Too many recent credit checks
-outstanding loan amt to total loan amt too high
    -Revolving card balances too high
    -Too many new accounts

OK, sounds like alot, but the majority has to do with the fact that I have started college AND took a vacation in the past three months. In short, do you think I could call and negotiate something?

I always pay my credit cards in full every month, and have unblemished credit in every way (except for a few too many recent inquiries).

definitely. You were denied by a computer. AMEX reps. have the authority to override the automated system and you should give it a try.

    Am/Ex Override Authority

I thought Am/Ex reps only had override authority for the Platinum Optima card?

I believe the credit report balances are based on your statement balances. Since you pay in full each month (must be nice!) those balances are misleading. This could be your best talking point, and a way to justify negotiations in the first place.
