I applied for a Amex blue but was turned down. I have a EQ fico of 726. No derogs. Their excuse was not enough credit history. I have a current car loan that I've been paying on for almost 2 years. 1 paid off car loan and one credit card with a $0 that was closed by me with a $1500 credit limit. I have no bad credit. Where should I apply? I don't want a sub prime card or a secured. Which credit card is easy to get if you don't have a long credit history?

Amex is pretty anal about CC history. With that score you should be able to get most visa;s or mastercards.

I just got off the phone talking with with an AMEX rep. He said that your application has a better chance of being approved if you apply through a phone rep. This way, if the computer declines the application for an invalid reason, you can explain it and the rep may be able to override the system and approve your account.

Here is the number he gave me: 1-866-798-4438

(He tried to convince me to apply for a Green Rewards charge card, but I have a chapter 7 BK discharged 10/98. He said that he may be able to override the automatic denial by the system, but I just opened up 2 new accounts about 3 months ago, so I thought it may be better to wait until they're 1+ yrs old).

    Good Luck!

I did call that number and I was told that I would not qualify for any of their credit cards. That's just crazy. I have perfect credit with my fico into the 700s.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried calling again and speaking to a different rep?

No........should I? So it's up to each individual rep I get on the phone to make a decision? Should I ask for anyone in particular?

I don't know anybody in particular... maybe somebody else may have the name of a rep they have worked with before, or maybe a number in retention or a Mr. Cooke in the Executive Offices (a la Capital One)... but in the meantime, I would just call and ask again, maybe even ask to speak with a supervisor.

Remember, it's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease!

You probubly don't have sufficient CC payment history, as you say only Installment loan history. It's their lost not yours, so why bother? =)
