I previously had a 10.99% Amex Blue... A while ago, Saar had said that he sucessfully (at least for a while) had his account to 9.99% which they initially offered. I tried the same but they wouldn't let me.

I went to their website again and saw they started offering the 9.99% card again. I called Amex. They said I would have to cancel and reapply? I already have a Gold card and a Green Corporate card with them for over 10 years - and they said that was the only way to do it.

Anyway, I cancelled and reapplied, got the 9.99% card and finally got it today. It looks really great - the frosted look.. but I'm a little disapponted with Amex.

The only good thing that came out with it was that they added my 2 account limits together. So now I have a 9.99% Blue with $21,000 limit.

DID YOU TRY THE M.O.R.E. TEAM (SUPERVISORS) OR THE M.C.S. (RETENTION)?

YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CANCEL AND RE-APPLY!!!

I talked everybody underneath the sun, supervisors, and even made multiplie calls hoping that someone would just do it. I got sick of it so I just re-applied.

    Did you get instant approval?

Unfortunately, neither "New Accounts MORE" nor MCS can transfer to the Blue 9.99%.

Their web site says the 9.99% product is available to those who apply online, if pre-approved.

ME, is that how you got that rate?

I re-applied too & was approved, but got the 12.99% rate, so I used it as a credit increase and combined the limit w/ my existing Blue 10.99%.

About that "frosted look" - is it any different from your old Blue card?

Saar, the 9.99 card is now available to anyone that applies and qualifies. Previously, you had to have a pre-approval for the 9.99 card, not anymore. I think they were under a little pressure with the plunging interest rates.

I never received a pre-approval letter or whatever in the mail, just cancelled my 10.99 card and re-applied on-line.

The frosted look is different than the previous card I had which was nice too. The old one was opaque however. The new one is semi-translucent.

I did receive instant approval. I have good credit so for me it was not a question for me whether I would qualify for it.. I was just trying to do it without an inquiry. Now all of my credit cards are single digit interest: 3 with 7.99% Fixed (Fleet, Pulaski, GetSmart) and 1 with 9.99% (Amex Blue).

    me,
which CRA did they pull? do you know what your score was? How many previous inquiries did you have?

Last time I checked (a couple months ago) my score was around 750. I have had 3 hard inquiries in the last six months.

I'm not sure which CRA they pulled.. I don't have a reason to pull one that often so I don't know.
