Would doing a few BT'S for $15,000 total...help me any???

I can pay it off in a couple of weeks...

    THEY JUST DON'T CARE???

They say I don't have ANY PRMO BT RATE...(5.90%)...

No credit limit increase after 2.5 years...

    Can't get a "GO-TO" 9.99% rate...

    So I'm STUCK with 12.99%...

I just DON'T understand it...I'm willing to "give" them money on a SILVER PLATTER...and they are telling me..."we don't want your business".

with the BVG going away, blue is not really such an attractive product any more..

Don't forget they have the MRO rewards program. Not many reward cards carry no annual fee and charge interest as low as fixed 9.9%

This is just another step in the realiazation that AMEX no longer holds a competitive product, and that these cuts show their weakness as it stands.

Remember the Free AMEX online? Amex Mail? BVG? all gone.

    Whats next? MRO free?

Honestly, i'm not satisfied at all with amex these days. They can't offer the interest rates that others can and the customer service is no better citi or mbna.

Sad really, amex used to stand for something, now they solicit everyone they can to ante' up the $300 platinum card fee so they can pay da bills.

I have to agree that some of their products are no longer as competitive as they used to be.

These products are still very good:

Amex Blue w/ fixed 9.9% - Let's see you name one rewards card with lower interest and no annual fee.

Amex Starwood Platinum - check flyertalk.com - there is almost a concensus that this is the best rewards card today. Only $30 annual fee (but free for the first year).

Amex Optima Platinum w/ a variable 8.75% APR.

These products are very good, provided you have the right purchase pattern:

Amex Platinum - if you fly business/first class at least 1-2 times a year with a companion, the card pays for itself. Also check: www.ityt.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=761

Amex Gold Rewards Plus - up to 5 free additional cards, each accruing MR points twice as fast.

    Saar's 100% correct.

Something else that I discovered - I linked my Rewards + Gold, Blue, and Corporate Card to the same MR account ... now I get the "bonus" 1.5x MR points on my CORPORATE card (Marriott, Starwood, Hilton, Continental, etc.) purchases as well!

Sam, I don't understand your complaint. 9.9% with rewards is as good as it gets ... maybe 8.9% for Capital One (who has gotten that rate, ?) is a little better. BUT ... no rewards with that one [9.9 Miles One is the best they have, and it's not REAL airline miles- only points towards tickets issued by Cap1]

You can't compare with the "teasers" out there ... they aren't "real" unless you're a "rate tart" (saw that one in a financial column in the UK last weekend ... LOVE that term!) and constantly play the bal xfer game. Chase has great teasers - but goto rates are 10-13%. Same for MBNA. -- -% for 9 months is great, but 12.9% isn't so great - average that for a 30 month period and a standard offer 9.9 is better- if you revolve.

I am quite pleased with Amex for offering good service, fair limits, at a good rate. I'm peeved that BVG is going away, but since now I have PR+3.99 for extended pay option on my gold card (which still has BVG) ... that rate is lower than Blue, so if I do need to revolve a big purchase - no big deal.

    Thanks for your post, mj.

As for Chase, I like them a LOT. My current Chase "go to" APR is P+3.49%.

    (Yes, w/ a little help from "R" :))
