I had an Amex card in 1986 however I was 16 yrs old at the time( there was a typo on the application for DOB.) I had the card until 1991 which It ended up being closed for non-payment I had two additional cards on my account(supposed friends)that did not pay and I was also unable to pay. I recently applied for the Amex Skymiles card and was denied. I called Amex and was told that I was on the dead accounts list. I told them that I never had an Amex account when she asked my birth date the year did not match what they had on record and she transferred me to Investigations dept. I hung up because I was not sure what to dot that point. I would like to get this card. should I pursue an investigation? will they be able to verify that I did have the account? the balance on the account was $965.00. of course this does not appear on my CR. please advise on what to do. Thank You
If you want to be in Amex good graces again, why not pay the charged off amount? Others have done this and in about a year after payment, were approved.
LKH is right. If you pay the balance and you have good credit now, you will once again receive a card. Amex is one of the most forgiving creditors. A friend of mine owed a balance on an old account. She applied for the Blue card and was denied. Of course the reason was the unpaid balance. She paid the balance and about a week later called Amex back. The payment posted to the account and the rep approved her application on the spot. She didn't even have to wait a year. BTW, I was with her when she called so this is not just hearsay. LOL I was pretty surprised that she was approved so quickly. They obviously kept the application on file. Her initial limit was I believe $6,500. Her credit at the time was excellent. No baddies. If I pay off Amex card will this appear on my CR? If it does it will show a zero balance but will probably have a derog remark. or because the account is so old will it not even appear.
Hey, LKH. Hope all is well with you. My job is wearing me out!! LOL Not much free time. I shouldn't complain. With this economy, I'm luck to have one.
It is so old now. It is too late for them to report it. My friend's account was from like 1990 or 91. They never reported it. It was past the statute of limitation. Should be the same for you.
