I had a charge off of around 1300 bucks from Amex (green card) back around 2000 or 2001. Should I pay this or not? It is still reporting every month on my credit as a derog. Is there any chance I will ever get another amex card again? How long will I have to wait?
amex has a long memory if the C/O is unpaid [internal blacklist] i lost my amex privileges 10 years ago, finally paid off the balances [1,200 & 3,000 in 1997]. the civil derog. finally left my CRAs 2.5 years ago (score jumped +50). And started getting AMEX pre-approval offers in the mail the last 6 months (I think they are FICO driven, not based on cardholder experience). Anyway, on a whim i applied online and got approved for rewards green....so it's come full circle. much more appreciative about my credit now -- and being back with AMEX.
what was the total time from payoff to getting the card again? what was your score when you reapplied?
charge off 1994 --> paid 1997 --> back to amex 2003 I guess you can say 6 1/2 years from paid charge off. Scores now are around 650 - 670.
