to those who have had an Amex account and converted to the account to a different type of card:

I have a Blue account, and I'm thinking about converting it to the hilton optima account. If I do this, will it be reported to the CRAs as the old account closed, and a new account opened? or will the current tradeline still show as open reflecting the hilton optima activity, and have no new account added?

    thanks

I think if you convert your Blue to the Hilton card, the Blue account will show up as "account closed by consumer." The new Hilton account will start reporting and should include your Blue history (it should have the same account opened date as the Blue account).

IS this true for everyone or just for Amex? I have the same question with Citibank. I want to close a secured Citi account for a Gold or a Platinum (if possible) and want to know how it will show in the tradelines.

I don't know about Amex, but Discover will allow you to upgrade and keep the same account # and previous payment history without closing one account and opening another. I believe Citi will do this as well, but don't quote me on it.

citi will let you close and combine... but they dont transfer payment histories between accounts..
once it is closed it is closed...

This doesn't answer your question, but depending on what the Hilton Optima card offers and what annual fee is associated with it, you might also consider joining membership rewards and then transferring the points towards Hilton stays, etc. Since your a Blue cardmember, the rewards program is free.

    Just a thought,
