Thanks to all who posted here about Amex doing courtesy deletions of prior charge offs. I had a 1996 Amex gold charge off. I called the number posted on this board for the Amex credit reporting group, and the rep offered me, without asking, a courtesy deletion from all three bureaus. She said the removal would be done in a month.

    Knowledge is power.

Hey csx! Good for you! I had to beg for my paid charge-off deletion but I still got it all the same. AMEX is the best!

Courtesy deletion!? Dumb question - Why do they do this, has anyone ever asked? Does anyone know of any other creditors that do this???????

Hmmmm, maybe there is hope for me! =) I've got a '98 AMEX charge-off that I need to get removed...I'll let you all know how it goes.. Has AMEX made any comments to any of you about the possibility of getting an AMEX in the future?

Was this in return for payment?

Nope. The consideration for the deletion was pure kindness.

CSX, you had already paid the charge-off in full I assume, right?

Does anyone have the phone number to AMEX for the courtesy deletion?

This post was from 2001. The information may not even apply anymore.

Many of these techniques work only for a while.

I doubt that any of these posters are still around.
