I just called AMEX to switch my Delta card over to the Optima Platinum. The CSR was very helpful and converted it righ away, no questions aked. The only thing is that I must wait until the next billing cycle (Apr 17)before I can receive my new card. Also, I was told that the lowest APR which they can offer me is prime+7.99/8.99%BT. I asked if I will receive the 0% intro APR (6 months) on the Platinum card, and the lady told me that she was not sure and that I would have to wait until I activate my new account. According to the CSR, I will most likely receive the promotional APR since I'm opening a new account......but she can't guarantee it.

Has anyone else had this experience when converting the Delta card?? When I converted my Citi Silver to Platinum, the change was done right away and I received the new card in a matter of days.

Also, what APR was given to you at the time of the switch and did you receive any promo offers associated with the Platinum card?

This is my first experience with AMEX, so I'm very interested to hear the feedback.

    Thanks!

The Optima Platinum is also available with fixed 9.9% or variable Prime+4% APR.

Call Amex. Say you wish to speak with MCS (Membership Consulting Services).

Once you get a MCS agent on the phone, let them know you want the Optima Platinum with fixed 9.99% (or var. P+4%). Be persistent, but not nasty. This may require more than one attempt, so if you're not getting anywhere, simply hang up and call again.

I did the switch through regular CSR (new accounts). Got P+4%, and a 3.9% intro for 6 months. Couldn't get them to budge on the low credit limit though ($2000).

It was nice and smooth for me, maybe you just caught a bad CSR.

George, any Optima-type cardmember can convert to the Optima Platinum fixed 9.99% (or P+4%).

But for now, Blue cannot be converted to Opt Plat.

Just bringing this oldie back up as iam thinking of also switching my Delta card over to the Optima Platinum.
Could the OP or someone else give an update.
Was this switch considered a new acct?
Did you get the 0% intro for 6 mths and also what APR did you manage to get?
    Thanks.

i switched to cash rebate (not platinum) and received prime+6% plus 0% for 6 months. After my into APR on the optima platinum 3.9% for 6 months. I'll keep switching till they dont let me to have the intro rates. can't beat 0% with a stick.

    sam,
their site says the intro apr on cash back card is 3.9% for 6 mths. How did you get 0% for 6 mths?

I was given a new account number, and therefore reporting as a new account on my credit reports. It reports as being open from my original account's open date though.

I had no problems switching from Delta SkyMiles to Optima Platinum. At first they didn't want to give it to me and offered me everything under the Optima umbrella except for Platinum. But I finally got it (so I thought) until I got a confirmation letter stating that after my billing cycle ended that they would be mailing me out my new Optima card. I was like, wait a sec! So I called and confirmed that they had me set up for a REGULAR Optima card and NOT Platinum but they fixed it RIGHT AWAY....confirmation letter came confirming the terms we agreed on, apr ,etc. I don't know what the apr was that we agreed upon but I know it wasn't the best terms the offer. I was just happy to get the card...I wasn't going to carry a balance on it.

thanks romanduv and MP$40. It's good to know that payment history is preserved.
and MP$40, i assume you got the terms you wanted thru amex retention, right?

Why is it that they do not want to convert delta into blue or platinum rebate?

MCS would take your Optima Platinum to a fixed 9.99% or a variable P+4%.

You're right Saar. I think it was P+4%.

An Amex Optima Platinum @ 8.75% APR is not too bad :)
