I applied online and received this message: "Your application will be processed in the next 7-10 business days, and we will notify you of the decision by mail". Does this mean I'm declined? How do I find out sooner than 7-10 days?
I don't think it's a denial. I get that message every time I apply for anything, including Amex. You can call 1-800-641-2400 to check on the status. They usually have a decision in 3-4 business days.
Any idea who to contact for AMEX reconsideration if denied. Its my understanding that the MORE Team only helps existing cardholders.
I have these 2 numbers. I know I used one of them for a reconsideration a few months ago, but not sure which. 1-800-600-2583 1-800-297-1000
Called AMEX, received denial. They pulled Equifax, my fico score is 672, only derog., one paid collection with a DLA of 10/1996. The reason for denial: "collection in last 12 months". This is not true, my collection is from 1996. Just pulled my EQ again, this is my only collection. I just got done refinancing my home at 6.75 (prime rate) . Mortgage company called this collection 6 years old just a few months ago. Why does AMEX see at as a collection that less than 12 months. I do see that there is an update date on EQ for this account for 7/2001 when I disputed it as "not mine". Could this be it? She said my internal score was good but this collection disqualified me? Should I dispute their decision and send a copy of my EQ report? Yhe inquiry dropped my score by 3 points.
Do you have a "HARD" copy of your report showing the 6+ years ago??? Or can you print one??? FAX IT TO THE APPLICATION DEPARTMENT???
When I received my denial, I called back and asked to speak with a supervisor re: reconsideration. They connected me to a super and I plead my case, although it did me no good. I had to wait for a correction to be made on my equifax report. (they were reporting student loans as plain old installment loans). When that was corrected I got approved with a 680 score and no derogs. Call and ask for a super. All they can do is say no. Good luck.
Sort of OT-- but your post is really making me think that something I have suspected for a long time is true! That disputing a negative account and having the *so-called* date of last activity changed can negatively impact one's score. I warned someone about this who had a tiny paid tax lien that was over 6 years old. I told them just to wait until it fell off (CA) They disputed. The notation from Experian changed from "This item is scheduled to continue on record until 2-2002" to "This item was verified on 9-2001. The score went down. 5 months later it fell off and the score went up. My suspicion is that 1) It is dangerous to dispute a positive account (might get deleted entirely) 2) It is dangerous to dispute a negative (might change your last activity date) Uh-oh I am beginning to sound like the resident ranters. Warning! Trying to understand credit reports may be dangerous to your (mental) health. lol
Calypso, My DLA stayed the same but the verified date did change to 7/1/2001. I'm thinking now that AMEX looked at date verified. Are they suppose to? I thought DLA was the date pulled for scoring and the date used to age the account. I will call the myfico people in California to ask this. I'll let you know what I find out. If anyone else knows please respond. thanks
I know what they say-- but my suspicion is that the update notes are calculated into the scoring somehow. My new advice for some people is to leave certain items alone.
