Hello all, My wife received a preapproval for AMEX Gold Rewards with no annual fee for first year. We have our eye on the Blue for a while; is there a possibility if we accept this preapproval, get the card and later convert to Blue at the end of 1 year? Anyone done that? Or will they reject for trying to convert from CHARGE card to CREDIT card ? It it's the latter, we think we'd wait for a Blue preapproval to reach us in future.
From what I understand it is two different product lines so no change. You can apply for both at the same time. I did this last Nov. online and within mintues. Cost me one inquiry. Of course some here have debated on why carry a charge when the Blue is free and has a stated CL. Best regards, Mirage
Thanks a lot Mirage! That's what I suspected. Your idea of "applying for both" is excellent; I'd call Amex and see if it can be done on the phone. Bump and request for other' feedback too
Unfortunately, Missus not on board with me with the apply-for-two idea ... so we decided on to wait for the Blue preapproval in the future. Before someone states the obvious, yes we can apply online right now for Blue, but having heard that Amex honors its preapprovals, we'd like to wait for the preapproval (and have a better than 50-50 chance at the card).
What I did was applied for the Amex Green first. Once I got the your 'approved' message I than applied for the Amex Blue. Only 1 inquiry was pulled. Don't blame you for waiting but this is what I did. Also I did not received a 'pre-approval' offer. Best regards, Mirage
