Does anyone know what's the limits on the green card? I have the Amex Rewards Green Card, still haven't had my card declined yet, but there is times where I have to think twice about using the card, due to the fact that I don't know how much the card will hold before it will be declined. I been an Amex card holder for about 4 months or so with no problems, I charge about $700.00 to $800.00 monthly on this card for grocery, gas, utility bills etc. Any information will help =) Thanks!
YMMV IS THE ANSWER... "IF" you spend under $1,000 every month you SHOULD be able to spend $2,000 with no problems...TRY TO SPEND $5,000 YOU MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM... There is a click on line on their web site for checking "IF" a charge will be authorized... SOME have said "SHOOT FOR THE MOON"...try $10,000...SEE WHAT HAPPENS
Thanks for this info GEORGE, I seen the link on their website, still haven't tried it yet, do they pull a hard Inq when one uses this link to check if the purchase will be approved?
I prefer STATED LIMITS... I would rather have a STATED LIMIT of $5,000 than a "MAYBE" $10,000 or "MAYBE" $15,000
Should NOT do a HARD...but don't quote me on it... Nobody has ever said they did a HARD when they used it... The person that has used it a lot said they either said GO FOR IT...or PLEASE CALL US ON THE PHONE
I don't think there's a hard inquiry. I have also been told that you can call the 800 number and ask them if they would approve a certain amount. You could ask if they pull an inquiry for that.
DO NOT PUSH THE BUTTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The one and only time I did it, Amex pulled a HARD on Equifax! Granted, this wasn't recent -- was almost two years ago, but they would not remove it! I was amazed and very angry to say the least! BE WARNED!!!
Exotic - all the above are accurate - and it does depend on your income. I was never questioned on any charge evr - BUT - when I knew I was traveling to Australia - I called them in advance to let them know it would be me using the card down under. I have used the aforementioned screen - will I be approved for $X? NiceGuy, I guess I was lucky because they never pulled a hard on me. But, I did punch in $30K and it said I would not be approved. $25K goes with no problem - interesting huh? Keep up the nice patterns using the GREEN and you will be a happy customer - with a heck of a lot of flexibility. aarrfff - dogman
I'm not really sure if I understand the "concept" of a pre-set spending limit? Why would you want to be hosting a major business dinner, knowing you've spent quite a bit this month and wonder whether your card is going to be declined? Like GEORGE said, I think I'd rather know what my limit is and spend accordingly.
but you can be declined for spending too much that month even if you have a high stated limit. I have heard of people being declined with 8,000 available credit just because the company thought they were spending too much etc. I think with amex it is not no pre-set spending limit, it is negotiable spending limit. FWIW you can call amex and ask what your exposure limit is and that is how much they will let you charge, you can ask them to raise or lower it, at least this is what I have been told. Had amex gold for 4 or 5 months now and never had a charge not go through even though I normally spend about 1,000 a month on it, I bought a 1,000 digital camera and was approved no prob, I don't even think twice about it unless I am spending over 1500 bux in one place at one time, then I would probably still be approved, but the anticipation of waiting to see what the register says would kill me LOL.
The days long ago before amex charge off, I averaged about 1200 a month and had no problems. When I tried spending over 2k, they said no problem, we just want income verification and bank statements so that we know that you have the money to pay it back. Right after that, it charged off with a 1300 balance.
