Curious from the Amex folks out there... We have a green card (I'm the AU) and we both have the mr's option...

I'm thinking of gold but looked into the benefits and I am not convinced... the primary cardholder is preapproved for Amex anything incl Plat...

Platinum would be fun but I've been told by the primary cardholder no way b/c of the annual fees...
    so...
Who thinks Gold or Gold MRs is worth it... and why?

I think it all depends on your lifestyle. If you frequently go to broadway shows and/or other events then the card may be useful in getting some hard to find tickets. Best Value Guarantee is another nice benefit of the AMEX Gold card.

Regarding Membership Rewards, I don't think it's a great program anymore after AMEX lost some important partners. I think the Hilton and Starwood programs are better than MR. I have the AMEX Hilton and Starwood cards and I'm using them a lot more than my Blue which is enrolled in MRO.

I had a green card for a long time. I was sent preapproved plat., but teh yearly fees are a joke. I asked for a gold card, and was approved.

It was a nightmare making the transition between cards. I had online statements that they cancelled as soon as they closed my old green card, but I had balances that were due from auto-charges, etc., and had know way of knowing what I owed. They also killed my ability to pay online, so when I finally found out what I owed, I had to mail checks, they were late, they penalized me by not giving me my rewards miles for the month.

I see absolutley no benefit from the Gold card, other than the right to pay amex $150 a year for the priviledge.

Knowing what I know now, in my case I would have kept my green card.
