I have an amex green card that got charged off back in I believe 12-99 (date of last activity)

I could pay Amex directly even though it is with a CA. (I called up amex and talked to someone there in the law office) The CA doesn't show up on any of my CR's. Only that the account was charged off.

Should I pay this off or wait 4 more years so it just falls off?

Depends on what your goal is.

If you want the charge-off removed from your CR, they might do it for the payment.

If you want any Amex product in the future this will give you a chance in the future to be considered as Amex is known to have an internal blacklist.

If just want to pay them when it really is your debt and you can afford it.

If none of the above apply, dodge the CA and in 7 years time the calls, letters and the negative TL should be gone.

    Best regards,

I agree that the debt is mine and I have no qualms about paying it either, I just wasn't sure if paying it would negatively affect my score or not.

I also didn't realize that amex had a blacklist.

How long would it take from paying off the debt to getting another amex?
    rough ficos needed?

Paying it off or not if it is listed on your CR as a negative, I considered it the lesser of two evils.

Yes, many posters here have written about the Amex blacklist. I myself did not owe them at the time of my bk-13 so I was able to apply. I did in the past have a bad payment pattern history with them but in the end did not owe Amex anything.

I can't really tell you when you can apply for a Amex product if you do pay them off, do a search here and study the topic.

I imagine if that they will consider you after you pay them off, your CR is going to have be void of derogs and scores in the high 600's+ will apply, depending on what Amex product you are shooting for. The Amex Green (charge card) has been considered the easier one to get as oppose to the Blue (revolving card).

    Hope this helps.

Amex definitely have a blacklist and while they might give a charge card to some, when you want a credit card that is financed by their Centurion Bank, this is where they will find your charge-off. I had a charge-off with them 14 yrs. ago, got a preapproved for the Green and the business Gold and kept them a year and applied for Blue in their website and was denied. Called them the next day and they said I had a charge-off amount.

I really thought it was paid but gave ex a card and he put something on it and I was not aware after I moved so evidently there was a CO, if they say so but I have no way to prove it was or was not, it was 14 years ago.
