I will only write checks to myself and deposit and wait for them to clear, still don't trust them 100%, anyway I am curious what is the highest amount anyone has written and deposited into their checking account how long did it take to clear?? The highest I have written is about 900 and it hit my LOC account on the third morning after intial deposit. I have a few intro and BT rates that will be coming to an end and I may access my line to pay off some bills.

    Thanks

I wrote a check for $2,000 with a zero balance and 10,000 limit on 12/22. Check came back from AMEXLOC on 12/28 unpaid. Have called my bank and AMEX 8 times each and gotten management involved both sides insist they didn't do anything wrong and blame the other. It was returned for "refer to maker " reasons. My bank claims AMEX stamped it this way and AMEX claims my bank never rec'd check for payment. Wrote another yesterday will have to wait 6 days to see if they will honor this. Verified 14 times my account is in great standing, etc. Brand new two week old account and first check bounces. Do not trust them. The office for AMEX is in West Virginia..Need I say more!!

Wow I am soo sorry. I have written checks before no problem, just wanted to ask about specific amounts. My check usually is available in my checking account immediately after depositing it, then it takes 3 days until it hits my LOC account

Well the saga continues..I just called AMEX LOC to see if their investigative unit found out why my LOC checks are not being honored by AMEX. I have had an account since 12/14, no balance and 10,000 limit. Have checked several times over several days, including yesterday and my account is active, etc. Called this morning and it states my ss# and PIN are invalid?? Spoke to a rep and there systems are down for updates. Asked if the system is supposed to tell customers they have invalid accounts when its down and he said yes. Called back and got the same answer twice?? Can someone with a AMEX LOC check this to verify if this is true?.1-888-356-1006.
I find it hard to believe the system would tell you your not a customer because its updating. It would be easy to change the message during this time to "no info at this time due to system updates".
    Please help

    Tommyy,

I have a LOC with them, I just called and the recording told me my account number and pin is invalid. I do know I have an account with them. I guess they are right but a very dumb thing to say when updating their systems.

I just received the same response. My ssn & pin are not valid. This is not a good sign.
I was thinking about consolidating some credit cards, but I'm afraid to write a check.

I've been burned and of course a lot of havoc followed i.e. return check fee, bounced check to the credit card company, all charged to my local checking account. Amex doesn't seem to care. They said they would investigate and let me know in 5-7 days, etc. Great way to treat a new customer isn't it??

Bailey, do you have an AMEX checking account or local bank? Do you have to have a AMEX checking account to make the AMEX LOC checks good?

Tommyy I do have AMEX checking, but I opened that after getting and using the LOC checks. I only got that account to use to pay the LOC online. My fiance also has LOC and no checking account with them, but hasn't had a problem. I know you and momof3 had terrible experiences with them so far and that's a shame.

I have had no problem yet. Wrote a check for 4k on my loc and it was honored. I was careful not to write checks on it until they cleared though. I've made two payments so far (mailed) and they both have posted fairly quickly.

It was a couple of months ago. I believe it was only a few days.

I also have had no probs so far with my LOC (knock on wood!). I use the checks only for BT to move revolving debt off of my reports, but I always send a check for twice the minimum due from my checking acct. in with it in case something happens. That way if the LOC check bounces, I'm still current on the other account. So far this method of "damage control" has worked quite well for me, but I'm still wary of sending an LOC check without a backup!

I don't think I would send an Amex LOC check to anyone but myself. And then only use the funds after their check has cleared. Just to be completely safe.

yes that is also the only way I will do it. I don't completely trust them at this point.

I deposited a check for 10,000.00. My bank cleared the check the next day. I have been with AMEX for 5 years and have never had any problems. I have the follwing with them:

    Platinum Optima 20,000.00 CL
    Platinum Card
    Platinum Corp Card
Platinum Optima Corp Card 50,000.00 CL
    AMEX Blue 17,500.00 CL
    AMEX LOC 25,000.00 5.99 plus 2.99%
    Brokerage Account

They have given me everything I've asked for, so far. I would highly reccomend them.
