I am posting this separately so as not to confuse this with another post of mine. In September I incurred a $1400 charge with Amex due to a health matter that had to be taken immediate care of. Consequently, I was unable to repay anything until early November (Paid $700) and told them I would be paying it off as I could over the next 6 weeks or so. Since my payment history with them was good, they said this should be ok. It wasn't. Second week of December I called to pay some more on the bill. They took my $250. Planned on paying balance off right after Xmas. Two days later got a letter from Amex saying my account was closed and balance would be handled by NCO. Not happy about this at all, but it was all my doing, couldn't blame AMEX. NCO called within days wanting the $700 balance, explained that I just paid AMEX $250. They said they would check it out and get back to me. They did within 2 days agreed balance was now $450. I then paid them $200. Balance is now $250 which they expect to get next week. Last time I spoke with them I requested that they remove the collection from my cr but they said no way could they do it. It would show as collection, paid. Since reading these boards, am wondering if this is correct of since I hold the last payment of $200, can I get them to do anything better than that? Should I just turn over the last $200 payment to them or should I use it to barter for something better ? Any help - much appreciated. Kismet
DO NOT PAY with-out a WRITTEN PROMISE to delete any mention of a collection or late payments... DON'T FALL FOR THE "WE CAN'T LINE"
Should I just turn over the last $200 payment to them serendipit ==================== If you don't mind screwing your self for the next 7 years go ahead. The END ************************* LB 59
Who's reporting? AMEX or NCO? I had a similiar situation, NCO could not validate, so AMEX reported as a "Collection acct". NCO went away after not validating. Still fighting with AMEX to delete with full payment. There are no good reasons to pay without deletion or changing the derog. comments to positive or at least neautral.
The last payment I sent in December was to AMEX, which I paid by phone and then was told that my acct has been given to NCO. NCO called within days and I told them I just paid Amex. Have paid all but the last $200 (which is due next week) to NCO. They have been very pleasant (since I've given them no trouble undoubtedly) but when I asked what would happen when I paid the last $200 she said it would be reported and paid collection. I think since I have the last $200 yet to pay that I have some leverage as to how it's reported on my CR. Just don't know how to go about using this leverage! Thanks for your help.
