I recently opened a checking acount with ODP and a LOC, they sent both set of checks, kindly DEPOSITED took my money for the checking, BUT just sent me a letter that all my accounts are on hold until I sent them proof of my idenity.

They want to 2 ORIGINAL consecutive utility bills, or a written letter from my bank or ORIGINAL pay stub.

What the hell are these people smoking?? I have no problems sending items to verify who I am, however don't you think they should have done this BEFORE they sent checks and took my deposit?? And why do I have to send originals?? Of course nobody is there on saturdays, so I will call them Monday and I may tell them to forget it and send my back my deposit ASAP.

Yes breeze I am seriously thinking about going after Equifax for the address misery.

The thing that bothers me the most is Amex has my money and nows it's tied up, not a great time to tie up my money. If this is how Amex membership banking is being run I don't think I want any part of it.

Thanks breeze, yes a BIG fit is what I am going to pitch. I am still shocked and very disappointed in their service and will tell them exactly that.

Gosh can you imagine if I had sent out my checks, the money I sent was for the bills I planned to send out, or if I would have used my LOC, I would have had bouncing checks all over the place, this is NO way to run a banking business.

I wish I could tell you I was surprised..... I'm not. When they're good, they're really good.... When they're bad, American Express can be the most impossible company to deal with......

I've also recently closed my LOC w/ them, due to similar verification BS.

Yes, their Membership B@aking division is nothing to brag about. However, if I really needed the P+2.99% LOC now, I'd probably send them the stupid doc's.

Hard to believe they'll open the account, accept a deposit, mail you the checks, and then ask for ID verification!!!

I spoke with them today, first a rep who didn't know his what from you no where, so then I asked to speak with a supervisor, well apparently he trained the rep.

They claim that somehow a different address may have come up while finalizing my applications?? I ask them why they had already sent me the LOC checks to be used and also sent me the checks for the checking account and took my deposit. I asked if this was standard procedure for finalizing an application, after the fact, he basically had no clue and continued to feed me the same line like he was reading off a cue card. He said my account was listed as restrictive and until they got the address verfication I have NO access to the money I sent or the LOC. I also asked why I would have to send ORGINIAL utility bills and if in fact I did send them would I get them back I was told NO why do you need them????

Needless to say I demanded my deposit back and told them to forget the restrictive code and close them, he said well we will just not complete the application status helllllooooooo??

I warn all those that do have the LOC or checking beware, I have a strange feeling about this wholedivision of AMEX, not what I thought they would be. I also asked had I used the LOC checks they sent would they have been honored, he answered not while the account was on restrictive status, watch out people there is something very strange going on here.

Yes, that was my experience as well.

Their verification procedures appear to indicate total incompetence on their part. Hopefully, that division would one day be able to offer the excellent service associated with most other Amex divisions.

Yes Saar, so for now I will sit on the side lines on this part of Amex and hope they do become more competent as their other divisions. I hope others don't run into the same problems as we have, but I believe Amex has alot to overall on this division.

I have to defend my company. We are having major troubles in every division in the company. While they reported earlier in the year that they would be having major layoffs. They are not done. Everyone is in fear of losing their jobs. Supposedly if we survived beyond 10/31 before the next board meeting, then we would at least be employed through the end of the year. Not to say that customer service is not important, but since we bought all these other nickel and dime companies, even customer service sucks sometimes on an internal level. Use the terminology TEAM LEADER when you ask for someone of higher authority. Also, they have gone with this philosophy of "lets just hire some people (off the street I might add) that have call center experience and just stick them on the phone. Years ago, when I started we were in training for 6 weeks. AMEX has lost some of its finer points, but if any of you become slightly annoyed, take it to our New York Office. Do not stop at the bottom. You ay get some results, but not like results you 'd get from New York.

I asked if I could get a "PRE-APPROVED" credit limit increase after 2 years...I was told "YOU CAN APPLY ON-LINE"...

I asked for my 12.99% BLUE reduced to the new 9.99%...I was told "YOU CAN APPLY ON-LINE FOR A SECOND CARD, MAYBE YOU MIGHT GET THE 10.99% OR THE NEW 9.99%...BUT YOU MAY GET THE 14.99%" ...GOOD LUCK...

    Something is wrong...

I call one department and they tell me to call somebody else...RUN AROUND...

    Kittw,

A question please. Do you know if Amex reports the credit limit and credit available on the Optima Consolidation Accounts. And is it a revoving credit item or a consumer loan. TIA
