Is this a good card to start with?

What do you mean by "start"?

If you have NO credit history, a good way to start building credit would be department store credit cards and a secured credit card that reports to all 3 beareaus.

If you have a BAD credit history the best way to rebuild your credit history would be to get a secured credit card.

From personal experience I suggest Capital one and Sterling bank. Although most of the popular sub prime cards offer secured cards. You'll find a free credit card list over at:

Good luck to you building your credit!

Amex optima secured does not report to the credit bureaus. It is also a card that many of use have had a hard time unsecuring. This card is a good card only if you want a relationship with Amex not rebuilding credit.
