AMEX Platinum Cash Rebate Card?

How hard is it to get accepted for an American Express Platinum Cash Rebate Card? When a bank pulls your credit report when you apply for a credit card, do they only look at the score, or do they look at other factors? My Experian score is 711, but I have a short credit history. How much does it hurt your credit score to apply for a card and be declined?

Will it hurt my credit rating if I'm declined?

    Thanks.

I have this card, but I was pre-approved. I just accepted the pre-approval. I am 3 for 3 on amex pre-approvals, it seems they don't lie like other companies... when you're pre-approved you really are.

And no, I'm not keeping all these amex cards around, i'm cancelling my gold charge card next month. This will leave me with the cash rebate card, (an actual credit card in case I have to carry a balance), and a platinum charge card.

Again, I have no idea how amex approves people, because I am only 20 yrs old, yet they give me 2 platinum cards. It is not my credit score, because I can't even get approved for a chase platinum. Chase sent me a "pre-approval" for a platinum, yet when I applied I received a classic card with a 2500 limit.

If anyone works for amex or knows anyone who does, could you please explain their strange criteria? Because I often hear of people saying how amex is so hard to get, but that doesn't seem to be the case for me.

And to top it off, I received another pre-approval from amex, this time for a gold corporate charge card, for me and my employees. Last I checked I don't own any kind of business... go figure.

Just wondering, what is your credit score?

The FICO Score is very important in the approval process, but many banks also have their own "internal" score which is influenced by your track record with them. The internal score is usually evaluated when you are applying for a second card from the same bank.

Just curious, how long is your credit history ? The reason I'm asking is that I was approved for AMEX Blue about 6 months after I got my first credit card . I think both Blue and the Platinum Cash Rebate card have similar approval requirements.

Well I am only 19. I bet my history is similar to yours. I have been under my parent's name for a while, and recently I also picked up two credit cards for myself because I have a business and charge a good amount to my cards (all paid back in full monthly, never missed a payment).

    Hi mosdef,

I think this credit card is the most difficult to be approved.

I was denied with a XPN score of 735, but then, with the factual help from our Amex King hehe ( Saar ) the denial was over-rode by MORE. I got the card today.

Again, thanks to Saar for his brilliant strategy!
