As you all know, I was approved for the Gold Delta SkyMiles card. After having the card for 3 days I called and switched it to the Optima Platinum card w/ no annual fee at prime+6%. I got a letter in the mail from AMEX to confirm all this.

No where did I see the words "Platinum" on the letter which left me scratching my head. So of course I call to see what the deal was. The rep that helped me with the switch apparently was going to transfer me to a REGULAR Optima® card! I was hot....especially after I verified with him THREE TIMES that this was for the PLATINUM Optima® card. The conversation was even recorded. So I nicely expressed this to the rep on the phone and she kindly apologized. She reversed what he did and set me up with the correct card with the same terms that we discussed. I'm glad I called to check. She said that my card should arrive 5 business days after 11/21/01.

So for those of you who had the Delta SkyMiles card and called to switch...after you receive you're confirmation letter, be sure to read through the whole letter to make sure it is the correct account and terms that you were promised.

Yeah mine said optima platinum Prime+4%, 3.9% Intro for 6 months, 8.9% BT, No annual fee. I guess not all reps are the same.

Glad you caught that mistake, mp$40!!

That Platinum Optima looks exactly like the Platinum Charge - of course that probably means nothing to you $MP40 ... hehe

Yeah, it's a great looking card. I love getting looks of amazement when I use this card at different places because people always confuse it with the AMEX Platinum charge card.

BTW what do most people call this card: "Optima Platinum" or "Platinum Optima" ??? Personally, I like "Optima Platinum", with an emphasis on the word "Platinum."

AMEX officially calls this card the Optima Platinum.

And you are right about getting this card confused with the Platinum Charge card. When I went to Palm Springs with my friend for her bachelorette party, we stayed at the Spa Resort & Casino. When we got to the desk, the lady was just being normal with us but as soon as my friend pulled out the Optima Platinum card, the mood changed! The lady was practically kissing my friends a**! Calling her Ms. Johnson, etc. While the lady was registering us, my friend made a comment that she was thirsty and a little hungry. The lady said that she would send us up a snack. The snack consisted of cheese, crackers, fruit, and champagne! Then the cake was when we got to the room, it wasn't the type of room that my friend requested so she went back to the front desk a little irritated. They said that they would see what they could do. So she came back to the room and after we indulged in the snack, we decided to change to go to the pool. The next thing I knew, these hotel guests just WALKED into our room! Luckily they were females (we were not clothed) but still. My friend FLIPPED! We were like WTF????? The girls were like, we just checked in.....they gave us a key blah blah blah. Apparently they gave someone else OUR ROOM but hadn't put us in another room yet. My friend went back to the front desk FUMING!!!! Next thing I knew, the bell boy came to our room and got our stuff. They put us in a suite RIGHT BY THE POOL! I didn't even want to ask how much it was.

Long story short, after the trip my friend contacted AMEX to complain about the service at the hotel and that she wanted to dispute the charge. Next thing I know, I get a check from her in the mail (we split the room between 8 girls). AMEX had credited her account the money!!!!!!!! :-O I couldn't believe it!!!! Now that's what I call customer service! :)

If having an Optima Platinum card means that hotels will send young women up to my room when I'm naked, then I'm going to call and see about converting my AmEx Blue over to that one. That's one heckuva rewards program.

Then when you get home from pool-side vacation, they give you your money back!

Free Sony Electronics,Cash back dividends, AAdvantage, got nothing on that program.
