I was casually looking at the different cards on the Amex website when I noticed that the annual fee for the Amex Platinum charge will be raised from $300/yr. to $395/yr, as of June 1st. I was actually thinking about going for this card last year, but I didn't think I would be using it enough to justify the annual fee. Any thoughts on why Amex is raising the fee ? Is it because of the recent financial situation ?
They're having cashflow problems. IMHO, The best Amex card is the Amex Starwood Platinum. $30 annual fee ($0 for the first year), and your earned starpoints can be converted to mileage with most airlines. Saar
I could help solve their CASH FLOW PROBLEMS...BUT they WON'T listen... My last call to customer service I found out I have NO PROMO'S... My last E-MAIL said call customer service... My last PFB...TOTALLY IGNORED... M.C.S. & M.O.R.E. DID NOTHING FOR ME... My letter from the assistant to the C.E.O. was full of NOTHING...NO OFFERS, NO SOLUTIONS.
After 2.5 years...I still have to accept 12.99%??? I DON'T THINK SO!!! AMEX BLUE was one of my most used cards...
I have the Hilton card and it's a pretty good card for no annual fee, but the Starwood card allows you to redeem points for frequent flier miles at a 1:1 ratio. I think the Hilton redemption rate is higher than this. I don't like paying annual fees so I went with Hilton instead.
Plus: Whenever you convert 20K starpoints to miles, Starwood would throw in another 5K starpoints as a courtesy. These $30 (charged as of the second year of membership) are money well spent. Saar
Is Amex platinum easy to get now? It seems like they are marketing this card heavily and sending out preapprovals everywhere.
I got the invitation to apply for Platinum, but only had the Green card for 12 months. I shredded it.
