I haven't posted in a while, but out of the blue (and totally unexpectedly) I got a preapproval in the mail for Amex Green. Years ago I had one, and cancelled it for whatever reason that I can't recall. I guess I have a hard time believing that it's a genuine preapproval, even though I've read here that for a lot of folks it *was.* Like, will they renege the preapproval if I say I'm self-employed? Which I am, but not very much so--I'm a SAHM more than anything and make very very little as a contract education consultant. All the preapproval asked for, essentially, was SSN, employer, and phone numbers and a signature. No mention of requesting income (which, for me, is miniscule!). I'd guess I'd just indicate self-employed (which would be better than "at-home parent," or "homemaker"which would equate with unemployed!) and put my phone numbers....or would indicating "Self-employed" be a flag or autodecline? I guess I am such a pessimist that I can't believe that this is a genuine preapproval, LOL!! BTW, several years ago I swore off acquiring more credit and have been just getting out of debt...I have one neg from about 15 months ago and that should be it. Lots of closed accounts and paid off ones and that's all--about 4 open trades. Another thing--does anyone know if I don't accept this go-round, do they reoffer ever so often, assuming my scores stay good? The total irony is that I've been focusing on just paying things off, that this was totally out of the blue. I'd sort of like to accept, but if they repeatedly reoffer, I might wait until the next go-round.
I too got a pre-approval for the green by mail. I sent it in and about a week later a CSR from Amex called me saying I was approved and I would recieve the card shortly. I had a Clean 677 EQ with 7 inquiries at the time.
