Received about two months ago Delta skymiles gold - with a low 2K limit. Have had Blue for about 8 mos with a 4.7K cl (was 3.7K - received 1K auto increase 2 mos ago). Called Amex when I received the delta card and asked for an increase - they were very apologetic - "your internal score is good - but that's the amount we're allowed to give when you apply for a second card." Okay, no biggie. got the 10,000 free miles, bought Delta tickets on the card - and paid most of the balance quickly. Last week tried to raise my Blue limit. Called MORE or MCS - don't remember which one - put in a request - said I'm trying to rack up membership rewards to upgrade to Business Class next year when I fly to London on Virgin Atlantic. However - I asked NOT to pull a HARD inquiry (too many inquries these last few months) can they give me the increae based on my internal Amex score? Guy was real nice - said he'd put in a request. Called back two days later - spoke to a not so nice woman - she kinda sounded like my 4th grade teacher - who said "Sir (hate when people call me Sir) you received an automatic increase two months ago - we only allow increases every 6 months," i know that i told her but I had heard that by special request sometimes Amex reconsiders "No SIR, that's not true - we evaluate increases ONLY every six months, SIR!" She actually started raising her voice a little - as if I didn't hand in my homework on time - so - I gulped - and VERY POLITELY said - ok - i understand - I'm REALLY sorry that i had to bother you MAM!" And that was that - i took my injured ego to the fridge - had some ice scream - and got over it. HOWEVER ----- HERES THE GOOD PART!!!!!! Yesterday, about a week after the Amex cl increase rejection. I was checking the balances on my credit cards AND LO AND BEHOLD - they raised my Delta card - which I only have for about 2 mos - to 5.5K from 2K - in other words - another $3,500!!! don't really know how it went down- I had asked for the increase on my Blue - maybe someone re-reviewed my accounts and decided - well we can't give him on the blue - but we'll up him on the delta. in any case i'm planning on transfering the entire 3.5K increase to my Blue card (Amex lets you do that) which is MORE than what i wanted. CONCLUSION: no doesn't always mean no when you talk to Amex. Even if someone there denies you a cl increase - it could be that someone higher re-reviews your request. Anyhoo- just thought i'd share. I know what you mean. Even after putting in my request for a lower APR on my Blue, the rep said, "but you won't get it". The next day, Amex Account Services dept. re-priced my Blue to a fixed 9.99% APR. Saar
12.99%------>9.99% (this month) after 20 calls, e-mails, snail mails, faxes, PFB'S... $15,500------->STUCK 2.5+ years.
PFB I still am PLAYING PHONE TAG with my C.E.O. ASSISTANT about my account...I want a 5.90% BT and a credit limit increase after 2.5+ years of NONE!!!
I called the # on the back of my card. No matter what they say, do not hang up until they put in your request. Saar
