I applied for AMEX Blue and was approved. My question is this. The app asked if I wanted to do a balance transfer. I said yes for 3000. When the approval came up, it said I would have a credit limit of 2000. Did I get approved for 5000 or just 2000. If 2000, will they still do the balance transfer of 3000, thus putting me 1000 over my limit???

Saar is the most knowledgable when it comes to Amex accounts, but I believe you only received a credit limit for $2,000 (their starting credit limit). They will probably only do a balance transfer for $2,000 instead of the $3,000 you requested. I would contact their retention department and ask them to reconsider your credit limit since it a new account and you would like to transfer $3000. They are usually pretty flexible. Good luck.

I think I will call. Even if it's only 2000, it would still put me over the limit with interest. Not a good way to start off an account. Thanks Dani.

I hope I haven't opened a can of worms here! I called AMEX re: a CL increase to cover my balance transfer I requested. They said they would take 2 days to do a review. Does that mean that they might pull my other credit reports?? If they pull TU it would be catastrophic!! Will this be my undoing for my first prime card!! Help!

They've put in a request for an increase, which is exactly what you wanted them to do.

Amex New Accounts dept will respond in a couple of days and you'll have your answer.

Someone here needs to relax and take a deep breath :)

You're right. ... Thanks. It's just that I believe they only pulled Experian for the initial approval. But someone here said they thought that AMEX pulled all 3 CRs for approval. I only thought they might go beyond my Experian report since I had asked for a increase and they had to take 2 days to review. Anyway, I've taken a deep breath, calmed down, and when I hear, I hear. Thanks again.

I have an Amex Blue card and when I applied they only pulled Equifax (I live in Virginia). I don't believe they pull all three credit reports, but they do check your credit reports on an annual basis (at least for me they do). When I applied in November 99 they pulled Equifax and they did an annual review on TransUnion in December 2000. They have never pulled Experian on me. So don't worry and enjoy your new card.
