    Hi there Amex Gurus....
As I'm sure you know I just received my Amex Blue the other day with the APR at 12.99%. I currently also have and MBNA Plat. Plus card at 9.90% and a Fleet Fusion at 9.99%. I e-mailed Amex telling them about my other rates and to see if they could do better with my Blue card. They said that is the best rate they have for me at this point.

My question is, am I right to assume the main reason they won't give me a better rate because I have no history with them? If that's true, what do you think is a good time to wait before asking again? Also, do you think I'd have better luck talking to someone rather than e-mailing? Thanks for your help!

I wonder this too....you are luckier than me though....mine is a 14% apr after the introductory 6 months rate.

Well I just found out today that MBNA is going to remove about 8 late pays from two accounts I have as a goodwill adjustment. I wonder if I should call Amex again after that change is reflected on my credit report to see if they might reconsider.

So I take it persistence is the answer....keep trying and eventually they'll cave? ;-)

I also have the Blue card. My APR is 10.99 which was the lowest rate at the time I applied. I have called numerous times and spoken to customer service, supervisors and have e-mailed them. They state there is no way my APR can be reduced without applying for a new account. That is so stupid considering they are sending me pre-approvals for a 9.99% account. Why should I have to open a new account to get that rate?

Saar and George have had luck getting their APR reduced. I think I may try Planetfeedback next. Apparently customer service does not know what process to follow to have someone consider you for a lower rate. I have told them they need to put in a request for account services to review my account. The rep I spoke to today told me that account services handles delinquent accounts?

George, who did you contact that was finally able to take action to get your interest rate lowered? Do you have any tips for me?

    I don't really know...

The last person I was working with was the "ASSISTANT" to the C.E.O.

She kinda' gave me the IMPRESSION like she DIDN'T do the 9.99%...and had to work with someone else to get a limit increase, low rate BT, and the 9.99%...

The 9.99% letter is signed by Alfred F. Kelly, Jr.~~~General Manager, Consumer Cards (I don't remember talking to him)...

Some reps' ignorance appears to have no limits :)

Keep trying, Miles, and you'll get it.

    Saar,
Since you are said to be one of the lucky ones, let me ask you: who did you speak to in order to lower your rate and what did you ask them to do? Did they do it, or did you have to demand account services to look at it? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
