Does Amex have a blacklist? If so, how long? My bother had an Amex Green back in '88 defaulted '91ish paid the C/O in full by 93' and is completely gone off all his reports now. Any chance of him getting one now? Scores in the mid to low 600's with some 30 days lates from late 90's.
I have never herd of a black list but they are picky about FICO score and prior BK's. I would say if he can get his FICO score up to 681, had no BK's showing on his credit report, he should be able to get one. You need to state that you have at least $15,000 a year income. With a FICO score in the low 600's, I think the chances of getting a card are slim.
Thanks Eric No Bk just some late pays I told to wait till his disputes on his late pays come back to apply for anything. He wants a house later this summer, I told him wait to see if that boosts his score. He has a lot of things working in his favor, 13 year credit history, current car and motorcycle loans a Sears, Discover and a CU Mastercard. Balances paid off every month (thanks to direct w/drawn from his checking) if it ain't broken don't fix it. But I will relay what you said and let him decide. Thanks
I applied for a green card after I disputed my BK (it was a 9 year old one) and had it taken off from TU and EXP. Only EQU verified it. I got a letter in the mail from Amex wanting info from my employer, length of employment, salary, ect. I've been told this is a good sign. So, I'm waiting for it to come in the mail. My scores are as follows: TU:600 EXP: 694 EQU: 663 (still showing BK). Amex pulled TU and EXP; so I hope I'll get it. Clau
Desdemona If he has three credit card in good standing that he pays off every month, that's fantastic. One strategy to get the FICO score up is to get the three credit card accounts to zero and then don't use them for about 8 weeks. This should be time enough to get all three accounts to be listed zero balance on all three credit reports. Then apply for the Amex card. This same strategy is also excellent for the mortgage. Good luck.
Thanks Eric I didn't think about that. He charges only what he can pay in one month. The Sears card doesn't get used as offen as Discover and MC so that might show a zero balance. The Discover has the lates on it but from my understanding they are 1 from '97 and 2 in '98. I told him I'd get the house first. He was smart enuf to have our mom set up a 3 year CD which he had money deposited in which is set to mature in August. He will have over 20K for a downpayment on a house. I think that is what got him in this spend what you can afford mood. He said his paycheck were slim but worth it in the end.
