My wife and her ex had 4 credit cards when they were married. He agreed to take her off of all four credit cards. Recently our credit rating dropped significantly and we couldn't figure out why. We've had excellent credit (both in the upper 700's) and our rates began to go up. We have never missed a payment nor have we ever been late. Come to find out, he had 'forgotten' to take her off of one of the four credit cards from over four years ago. He is maxed out at 30k and has been very late on his last three payments (he felt buying a new ski boat for 14k cash was more important). We have tried to explain this to our creditors but they have all said, 'I understand, but too bad'. His response was 'Sorry'. What can we do? My wife's credit score dropped from 786 to 645
If it's in the settlement agreement that he gets her off the cards or closes them, you can sue him for your damages. Make him sell that 14k boat and pay you your damages. You'll be needing the money to pay off the 30k CO if they sue, or at the very least the taxes on it when the creditor sends you a 1099-c.
Only suing him will help - in two courts - back to divorce court where he renaged on the divorce agreement, and another court for damages.
