I have a collection agency pursuing money allegedly owed to SBC. This is a small amount (under $50) and I would have no problem with paying it in full...but I was on the phone with them and they seemed unwilling/unable to guarantee that they could remove the item entirely from my credit report. They also told me that they do not own the debt but are collecting on behalf of SBC.

Can I demand cease and desist, send payment to the OC, then demand that the CA remove the reporting because I dealt with the OC?

    did you DV them?

either way i wouldn't pay it unless i got in writing they would delete....if they are reporting it, they can delete it...

I presume that DV means "demand validation"?

I did verbally ask if the collector could provide an itemized breakdown of what was owed. They don't have it.

My thought is to tell them cease and desist, that I don't owe them and/or will deal only with the OC. SBC hasn't reported anything on my credit. My main concern though is to get the collector off of my report.

send a debt validation to them certified mail return receipt requested...once you get the green card back dispute it with the credit reporting agencies (again CMRRR)

why would you pay for something they cannot prove? IF they verify with the CRA without providing proof to you they are violating the FDCPA.
