Did anyone receive and 1 year anniversary credit line increase from Providian, if so how much did you receive. Will that start the clock over again (120) days before you get another increase?

It will not restart the clock. My anniversary increase was 100.00.

    RE: Anniversary Credit line in

It look like that with a $100 increase you are a bad risk for the credit card company.

It does not matter how much the limit is on your card it is how you pay your bills.

    To Steve: RE: Anniversary Cred

I feel if I was a bad risk to this credit card company my credit line would not be over $3,000 on this card. I was asking this question for people on this board that receive an anniversay credit line increase not for speculators. Thank You.

    Yes, I got 1000

and by the way, the 120+ clock is applicable to increases of over 200. (When you get those increase offers it says on the back something like "valid if not already received more than 200 in the last 120 days". They tell us the rules, we just have to read and ask questions.

For example, the first increase I got w/Prov was for 200. Then they sent me the "would you like 1000 for 99 fee" notice. I didn't know better so I took the first 2 of these to increase my line of credit quickly. But had my auto increase been 201, I would've had to wait 121 days before getting or requesting another one. So if you just got 100, I'd call in and request more. Call the retention directly (we've posted the numbers all over the place on the board). Maybe that's why the auto increases are so small. Any larger and they couldn't try to entice us into paying for larger increases.

For the first year, I didn't know I could call in and "get things" so I used my card a lot, paid big payments, and I got increases at about the 5 month mark (200 auto), 6 month 1000 (99 fee), 11 month (200 auto), 12th month 1000 (99 fee) you see the progression. I've heard that usually the free small increases are followed by offers for larger increases (with fees attached).

The key is when you reach 121+, or when you get an offer, call in like you haven't gotten the notice and ask for a line increase (They'll give you what they offered you in the mail... but w/no fee). That's what I do now. Seems fair to me b/c I paid all their fees for the first 12 months like clockwork.

I actually really like Providian. They're my highest line cards right now and they've been very generous when I request line increases. Despite some bad press here and elsewhere, I don't know of any other way to rebuild unsecured credit as quickly.

I am just trying to build to their Platinum card, with prime rates, and that way I'll have several years account history on this tradeline. :) Work the subprime into prime cards and that way, if the companies have been good to us, we can stay. If not, we can always move into "prime" cards. Guess I just get irritated that those "prime" companies wouldn't touch me when I started rebuilding but Cap1 and Prov took chances (albeit well-rewarded ones) and let me have credit again. Maybe I'm just too loyal :)

Thank you, I will give them a call because it has been 138 days since my last increase.

And while you've got them on t

Ask for the increase first. Then do what I do. See what else you can get (be very sweet about it).

Ok, Depending on if you're at 23.99 still, tell them that you've been getting lots of stuff in the mail... 15.9, 16.9 17.9 ... and you have a good friend who has 16.9 classic card w/them (ME). They reduced me from 23.9 to 16.9.

If they offer 19.9 hem and haw... say you really had your heart set on lower.. and since you can't access your Aria card and your Prov card (an online glitch... act like you've got an Aria even if you don't)...

That should help your case. YOu're being accomodating for their tech screwups. If they say no, try for the 59 annual fee rebated. I've gotten all of this over time... but it's taken a few calls. I love seeing what else they can do for me, and they're actually pretty generous, esp if you've been w/them over a year.

    RE: Anniversary Credit line in

Providian normally gives a small credit line increase on your anniversary date. For me, this has not restarted the 120 day line increase clock. I believe I have normally received between $100 & $200. This also has NOT been the small increase that you normally receive before the letter offering the larger increase. For me, it has been in addition to that. I have been with them for five years. This year I received a $500 increase. Hope this helps some.
