how old does an unpaid collectionor charge off have to be before it is no longer having an impact on your scores? i ask because i have 4 which will be 5 or 6 years old in the next monthor so.. thanks
The older a charge-off or collection is (regardless of being paid or unpaid) the less it affects your credit rating. If they're approx 6 years old, and you're not in a hurry for new credit, you could just wait till the 7 year mark, and it'll drop off. You've most likely passed the SOL(depending on what state you live in, and where you signed the contract) for the creditor to sue you, so you're in the clear in that respect.
