This is from my local paper: Agency earns A for clearing loan mixup Published December 19, 2003 Dear Greg: My name is Rafael Acevedo, and I was born in Puerto Rico in 1944. I moved to the USA for the first time in 1991. A collection agency is trying to collect $3,341 from me for a student loan which is not mine. I have never studied in the USA. I have been trying to explain to these people that I found out there are at least 10 Rafael Acevedos living in Central Florida, and they are making a mistake with me, but they just reply that I am trying to walk away from the debt. If they put this wrong collection on the credit bureau report, it will affect my credit score, which is excellent. RAFAEL ACEVEDO ORLANDO Dear Rafael: Welcome to the great American melting pot of corporate bureaucracy where, no matter who you are, eventually you get lowered into boiling oil like a skewered shrimp dipped in tempura batter. The good news: You're done! "We have ceased any action on this account," said Erin Korsvall, spokeswoman for Sallie Mae, the nation's leading provider of student loans. "We apologize to Mr. Acevedo for contacting him incorrectly. We have made sure there will be no damage to his credit report." Is this a great dysfunctional country or what? http://www.orlandosentinel.com/feat...19,0,5676494.column?coll=orl-living-headlines
