Does anybody know if there is a federal or state (I live in California) law that puts a time limit on how long a dealership can take to pay off the car you traded in? My roommate traded in her car and the dealership didn't make the payoff until a month and a half later -- now she has a thirty-day late on her credit. We already tried a goodwill letter to the lender, but they are refusing to remove it. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks
I don't know the answer...but your county, city or state likely has an office of consumer affairs....they are usually a good source for info like this.
Good question!!! I'm curious as well. I had the same thing happen about 10 years ago but the company removed the ding after explaining the situation. I still had the daily harassing phone calls even though I had explained the situation each and every time. I'll do some research to see if I can find out. In the mean time, did she try Planetfeedback?
