Hi, I am a newbie here, trying like others to rebuild my credit life. This is an amazing site that I stumbled upon, and God am I glad I did. Thank you for the remarkable resource and wealth of information you all offer.

I learned the hard way and unfortunately BEFORE I discovered this site, to wait and get 'pay for deletion' in writing BEFORE remitting anything. I had a Verizon account that I paid, spoke to the CA and demanded that the TL be deleted. Instead, they listed as paid in full for less than total due. Lesson learned. In the meanwhile, I did learn a work around. If the OC is willing to accept payment in full for outstanding balance and clear account and send you statement/receipt, that the CA listing the negative TL should delete the listing. This happened with two of my other paid accounts that were "transferred" to CAs who listed negative TLs for the accounts.

Presently, I have two accounts pending. One, I paid the original OC and they've cleared my account. The CA however is being stubborn and not removing the negative TL claiming their records don't indicate the account paid from the OC. I sent them copies of the payment info. Then followed up with a removal demand based on willful violation of FCRA. They are now calling me rather than replying in writing or better yet deleting the TL as they have no standing for listing it.... not to mention they wanted twice the amount of the actual balance!

Q1 - How do I force them to comply? CRA keeps claiming debt verified even when I actually mailed to them my supporting docs in addition to the online dispute.

Second, situation, I want to pay for another account that is with CA. The OC deal with me and forcing me to work with CA. I called and left message (I, know now, a big no no) that I would be willing to pay contingent on deletion upon receipt of payment. Play message tag for a couple of days. Then I discovered this site, and sent a letter. Today, received a message from a "supervisor" instead of the rep I was dealing with wanting me to call and speak with him regarding my letter (btw, I submitted address [mailing only, not physical] and fax number to send signed agreement).

Small background, I went through ugly divorce, subsequent pregnancy, then disability. I am now in a more viable position and want to satisfy my obligations, but also don't see the point in paying when the effect is the same. Don't understand why 'pay for deletion' begets so much resistance. It's a win/win situation. Wasn't the point of threatening to soil one's credit the incentive to get people to pay? Once a debt is satisfied, why would one want to remain punitive?

What recommendations would you proffer in handling these two situations? Any thoughts are much appreciated.

    Sorry for the long post.
