Hey, I think they are a CA in California. Does anybody have any experience with them: It is for some old parking tickets. I think they are getting near the SOL (which I think is 5 years in California.) I see now that they have also added a bunch of interest - looks to be about 14 or 15%. Does anyone know of any federal or state limits on this type of interest charge? I could understand a credit card collection account charging interest if the contract says it will - but what is th contract for parking tickets? As it is the tickets were probably for half the amount that JJ MacIntyre is reporting plus they bought it a discount and now they are adding interest! Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Tom
I sent the validation letter today. I also called my state dept of commerce which requires collection agencies to be licensed. He didnt have them in the database. He said they don't need to be licensed if they are actually a law firm - but altho they seem to have a lawyer associated with them they advertise them selves on the web and in theie letter to me as a collection agency. I put the link below: http://www.jjmacintyre.com/ I also found some stuff online that would seem to indicate that SOL for parking violation in California is 5 years so these tickets (if they are tickets & if they are actually mine!) should be due to fall off soon. I also called the city parking department and they have no record of tickets for me by name, so I'd love to see what records the CA could possible have. The woman at the parking department implied that tickets older than 5 years were hard to access - she actually used the word purge - so this kind of meshes with 5 year SOL. Lastly I found some info that seems to point that 10% is a valid int rate in CA if the rate has not been specified in the contract - but I think they are trying to charge me more. Any feedback appreciated, Thanks, Tom
Tom, All I know is JJ MacIntyre has an office in Tracy, Ca...I think you told me in another post that a CA in California is not required to be licensed, right?
Yep, that's right. But I live in Minnesota now - so they are required to be licensed to collect from me. Or at least I think that is how it works!
