A friend of mine pulled their report and found "special handling-contact subscriber" on an old mortgage. Mortgage status is paid and closed. Reporting on Experian only. Any forum members have experience w/ this type of message? I wasn't sure how to direct them on their next move, but I told them I had some friends who probably could ... (Yeah, that's you guys.) Thanks in advance!
What I seem to have found is that it seems to indicate that the DF may have received a dispute of the information that they are looking into, and are needing to handle it specially. But some posts seem to indicate that it is a major score tanker. http://consumers.creditnet.com/Discussions/credit-talk/t-special-handling-22514.html

Thank you much, JAM! Yeah I don't think there's a definitive explanation for how or why it happens, or what the consequences could be if it shows up on a credit report. Naturally anything that catches the eye on a credit report is likely to be perceived as "Not good".
