I had been taking depo for a year when I quit. I gained 40 pounds and lost enough hair to make a wig. And the loss of libido was ridiculous.

    Any others?

The same thing happend to my friend. She took it like 3 times and then quit. She had gained 20 lbs and her hair was falling out which is a travestly for being an afro american woman.

    Have you explored other options?

If you want, you can email me in private to discuss further.

    Raising hand here:(

I never gained weight or hair loss, however I was told the majority would just spot perodically throughout the month, I ran like a river EVERY other week. I quit taking it after the second shot.

It has been almost 3 years since I have taken it and I still have my cycle, it is now every 2 weeks. NEVER ever again would I use that form of birth control!!!! I researched it and it could takes YEARS for my regular cycle to return:(

I took it off and on since 1995. The very first shot made me start a heavy cycle that lasted over 30 days. After that, no cycle ever again. Went off in 1998. Got pregnant in 2000, had a beautiful, healthy baby in 2001. They gave me another Depo shot right after birth. Again, it stopped my cycle completely. My hair has thinned in recent years, but I never attributed it to the Depo. My hairstylist told me to keep taking my pre-natal vitamins. Sure enough, my hair is looking more normal because of the vitamins. No weight gain problems either. By the way, yes, a definite loss in libido. My poor hubby.

Before depo was approved for human use it was used to control the heat cycle of cattle, and to prevent pregnancy in dogs. I personally think the drug is incredibly dangerous, and am shocked that it ever made its way to human medicine. Dogs that received more than 2 injections in their lives more than doubled their risk of cancerous breast tumors.

Where you trying to get pregnant that whole time??? 15 months? I heard that it could take up to 18 months from your last shot to get pregnant. That is another reason why I chose not to do it.

I tried the birth control pills called Ortho Cyclen (not tri-Cyclen). It was the same dosage all the way around until the placeebos. I liked and it actually made me loose weight but it killed off my libido. :-(

I was on Depo for about 2 years. I stopped having my cycle completely after the second shot. THen, this past summer, (april) I stopped the shots. I cycled from the end of April until July. Now I'm on a pill form, and I can choose to have my cycle or not. I'm much easier to get along with, and I have alot more money! LOL

I was SATAN!! I hated everyone and everything (except food), I gained 60 pounds in the year I was on it and I never took it off. I blame my post pardum on it, I didn't want anything to do with my daughter the entire time I was on it.

Stay clear of it, the only perk is not having aunt flow visit, and even that isn't 100%

I received the depo shot before I left the hospital after the birth of my second child. Everyone including my doctor and the LPN who gave me the shot, said that it was B.A.D. Naturally (you'd just have ta know me) I didn't listen to anyone's advice and took the shot anyway. By the way, the LPN that administered the shot tried to scare me by telling me that it would hurt, really really hurt! Didn't listen!

I had my flow for four months. I was "the spawn". Everyone that knew me thought that I was losing my mind! I didn't get another shot, but am convinced that my hormones have in some way been permenately altered to the negative.

I didn't gain weight initially, but I still haven't been able to lose the weight that I gained predelivery. I weighed 210 at delivery, and at 5'4", I looked like a beached whale! Still do!

I am hoping eventually the side effects will wear off and I will be my 120 lb old self again. I am definitely convinced that the side effects have still not worn off yet.

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Also, I wished that I would have lost some hair. I really need to. I had my hair "thinned" about 1 1/2 months ago and it just made it harder to comb out.

Also, my hair, which was previously stick straight and thick, is now wavy, frizzy, and thick!

    Depo sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i just started taking Depo and am due for my August shpt, I can honestly say that the only thing that I would complain about and my husband to is losing my libido but I work around that, although it is hard I manage. I have not dealt with any of the horror stories that I have heard. So I guess I will head back in August to get the second dose.

I feel really bad for those that have the HORROR stories.

    Keisha,

I happy that the Depo works for you. You are lucky not to be one of the horror stories that are quite common regarding the Depo shot.

Actually, anything that messes with your homones is just poison. My experience was not from Depo but the pill, and it made me gain weight, lose my hair as well as my libido, and I cried all the time. We begain to joke that the pill works because it just makes you stop having sex altogether because you feel so bad about yourself. It's really awful, so stay in tune with your body and don't let it go if you start to feel out of whack. It takes a long time for your body to readjust after you go off.

What is so scary about these stories? I have 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 year old girls. They are classic blonde, blue eyed beauties.

I live in Ohio and I hope that they pass similar laws here. However, I hope that they include convicted rapists in addition to child molesters.

Chemical Castration may not be the answer, but it's a damn good start!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    sirrowan,

That was the wrong article. I did not mean to offend you.

I have two beautiful brown-eyed, brunette daughters too.

I can't find the article/website that I wanted to post, the stories it posted made ours sound like nothing.
