psp in nm, I haven't heard of them before, but we could do a CreditNet slam on them and call them at their tollfree number trying to dig for info... Do you think they're just a stupid CA using stupid CA tactics or are you wondering if they're a law firm?

Since none of us knows your name, though, we won't be giving away any identifying info. We can just call and see what we can all find out... Back in a few...
I'm back. Here's what I learned: It's a 'liability and asset company'. I asked if it was a law office. Mr. Carter did not say yes and he did not say no. He said that there are collectors in the office and there are also attorneys in the office. Their business is to 'conduct a preliminary investigation on claims' that get forwarded to their office. I've had that phrase used with my own CA people--see the 'help tracing a tollfree number' thread and the 'about to be sued?' thread. I think they're just specialized CAs. Since I had no extension or reference number to list, they couldn't forward me to the 'agent' who would be handling my case. I just got passed around until I said I did not want to be 'helped' today and hung up.
Oh yeah, he didn't say it wasn't a collection agency, either. [edit: meaning he didn't deny that it is one; sorry that was unclear there.] I think it is a CA, though--just my opinion. I think they just have the same options available to them as other CAs do, but they're trying to sound more threatening by saying they 'investigate' your 'assets'. Because...so does Joe Blow CA, but that doesn't mean they're going to get anywhere doing it, right?
