    Hubby is being chased by a CA ref: a debt he does not believe is his, may be from prior spouse. The debt APPEARS to be from 1992, does not show up on any of his credit reports, and he has no record of the credit card they claim is the source of the debt.

    We've sent first letter requesting verification; they failed to provide within 30 days, now just sending cease & desist letter for failure to validate. But we're feeling a little wobbly on where we stand legally.

    Has anyone out there had success filing complaints with AG office in your state for CA that refuses to comply with the law? Can you share your story?

    Thanks!

    ==================
    1*They don't have to validate period.
    2*You don't send a C/D simply b/c they didn't validate unless of course you're asking them to sue you.
    3*AND Well YOU SHOULD as you shouldn't have sent a c/d asking to get sued.
    You made a mistake by sending the c/c instead of the estoppel
    letter.

    The procedure is
    1*validation letter
    2* Thirty days later estoppel letter
    3*15days letter ITS letter.

    The procedure is not.
    1*Validation letter
    2*C and D letter
    3*CA sues you
