Anyone ever go on a credit binge?

I'm moving next month, so I decided to apply for everything I wanted now, before I have to put "Time at residence: 1 Month" on my future applications, which I've been told may have a negative effect on being granted credit.

    Results:

GM card -- turned down flat (not even a "we will consider and get back to you in seven days" message).

Dell-- (Need a new computer, anyway) Accepted, but with only a $2,000 limit, and no interest free period. Will call and haggle tomorrow.

AMEX-- Approved for the Green (woohoo! since I've already been turned down for Blue). But will also call tomorrow to try to upgrade to Gold, which I should have applied for, anyway.

With 9 hards on my report, and three CLs that are a month old, that's it for credit for me for a year. But I figured I would get it out of the way now, since I already had 6 hards and a bunch of new CLs, anyway.

Anyone know what kind of success to expect getting AMEX to upgrade from a Green to a Gold?

My guess is that they won't do it right now, but after you've had the Green card for 6-9 months they'll probably do it then. That's the way it worked in my case anyway. However, I never asked them for the upgrade, they just offered it automatically. So, if you call them, who knows, maybe they will. Good luck.

Yeah I went on a binge a few months back, got 2 Visas + Target + Dell. Was lucky cause for the most part they each only checked one CRA so the hards are spread out.... but it still brought my score down about 10 to 20 points on each. Staying away from credit now, but I have to say it felt good to get a few instant approvals, its been years!

LOL It was cool to see the "congratulations" pop up on the screen. That's the first time I've ever seen that. It was also a nice feeling to get AMEX again, after all these years. I last had one about 17 years ago, which I destroyed because I decided credit was a sure path to financial ruin. Actually, it turns out that badly managed credit is the path to financial ruin, or one of them, anyway. Ah well.

To answer my own question about AMEX, it apparently isn't hard to upgrade. The person I talked to said to call before activating the card and it should be no problem. But after looking at the differences between a Green and a Gold, I'm not sure it's worth the 20 bucks a year to do it, anyway.

I went on a credit binge last month. I was not going to apply because I didn't want the inquiries or denials. But I applied for 6 different cards who pulled from all agencies and was approved for all!!

I inflated my equifax score by putting my negatives in dispute. They were 2 - 30 day lates from over 2 years ago. What really helped me was they weren't looking at my Capitol One account which at 90% usage my score went up 75pts!! But, I still got prime cards with my unpaid charge-off showing on TU and Exp.

I got Amex Blue $2k, Bofa Visa Gold $4100K, Discover 0% until 4/03 $3k, HH Bank $5k Plat., Mobil gas card $500 and Chase Visa $3k! I got low limits but my score has only gone up with the new cards reporting, I can't figure FICO a.k.a. FAKO out.

I was really pissed off at Cap. 1 that's why I applied to have other options. I had been so good, but I couldn't help it...

I don't have any derogs, and I think they pulled EXP, although I can't see my EXP report to verify, and I am currently locked out of EFX as well.
Just relax, keep doing smart things, and you'll get there, I have no doubt :)

LOL, I think it's time to get into the 12 step credit program :p

I have to say, your binge puts mine to shame. Maybe next year, for me. :)

Hey Beta how are you doing. Long time since I've talked to you. BTW: I *finally* conquered Asset....they gave up with me and deleted from my reports and I haven't heard from them since. :)

Back to the subject of the thread...I went on a credit binge (sortof) and really screwed myself in the long run. I opened a Cap1, Credit Union CC, Target Visa and Marshall Fields charge. Plus I bought that car. Now I can't get jack, and my scores aren't all that bad to boot. It's mainly the inquiries that make people nervous (I had over 8 inq's on the car alone). I really want a Citi card, but they won't give it to me because of the inquires and new accounts reporting. Ugh...it's a constant struggle. :)

    Hey Matt!!!! <waving>

Good to hear you conquered ASSet. <smiling> Feels really good doesn't it? Never give up they will cave eventually.

I only have 1 derog left on Exp and TU but I'm working to get it off. It's an old charge-off from the OC.

I got all of my inquiries off Equifax and I'm currently disputing Exp w/Doc's Trick. So hopefully, they will be clean of inquries soon. I only have 3 on TU. So I'm not doing bad actually.

Try to dispute the inquiries or wait until the holidays and then apply for Citibank. I've heard companies are more lenient then.

Anyway, take care good to hear from you, Matt.

    Oh boy did I EVER!!!

It started when I first got my job as a banker at Wells Fargo. 4 days later, I was opening my checking accounts and I applied for a team member Visa card. Well, I was approved for the $5,000 Platinum card with a fixed 9% interest rate.

After I maxed it out (after 2 weeks of catching up on my childhood), I applied for a Men's Wearhouse Credit card and got ANOTHER instant approval for $1500. I maxed out that card too on new clothes for my job.

Then I applied for a jewelry store credit card. I bought an engagement ring. I was approved for $2750, but only used $1,000. I put 20% down and got 0% financing for 1 year. I paid it off in 4 months.

Then I got smart and got a $3,000 unsecured loan to pay off my Men's Wearhouse card and a Gateway card that my dad had to finance my computer. Paid that off in 6 months.

Now I'm still working on paying off my $5,000 Visa Balance. It'll be gone in Feb, 2003.

So, yeah, you could say I went on a binge!
