I received an unexpected "Cash Rebate" check from Cap 1 for almost $500. No restrictive endorsement or marketing games, no SOL debt games. This appears to be a live check with a "thanks for being a Cap One cardholder." I would have had to charge in the neighborhood of $50,000 to earn that big a rebate. If they moved the decimal place to the left one digit, it would make more sense. Anyone else get a check like this?? Is this somehow another one of their scams. Or are we talking a huge IT mistake?? I didn't even know this card had a rebate feature!

Does it say "For you, a preferred capitol one cardholder." Its either a check that has the same rate as a cash advance, or you received their purchase checks which have a rate of 9.9%

Does it say "capital select check" on the top ?

No mention of a cash advance on the letter attached to the check.

    It says:

"As a member of the Cash Rebate program, you receive 0.5% cash back on net purchases up to $3000 and 1% on all purchases above $3000. The check reflects rewards earned on your Capital One card during the current rebate period."

The current rebate period would have to be a several years for the amount to be correct. Much as I'm tempted to cash this check, Cap One is known for being devious. What's their game??

    UPDATE:

Got the pchone call today from CAP 1 today.

"We've stopped payment on your Cash Rewards check issued by mistake"

I wonder how many of these got cashed and made it thru?
