I applied for starwood and now found out the underlying and not mentioned on amexs website rules, and have decided I don't want it. I took the hit so should I have them convert it to an optima plat or maybe something else or just not activate it, activate it and call and cancel it or what? I may not stay at a starwood 2 times a year and don't want to earn all those points and then lose them for a stupid reason. Any recommendations on what to do?

    WORK WITH NEW ACCOUNTS...

They "MAY" be able to make this a DONE DEAL before you receive the "WRONG" card in the mail...

I don't like to limit my flights to delta only, any other recommendations, does amex optima platinum still have BVG, that is also one of the main reasons I was getting this card.

    I DON'T KNOW...

"MOST" stores for 30-90 days will give back the "DIFFERENCE"

    F.Y.I.~~DELTA HAS PARTNERS...

There are always Amex cards with Membership rewards so you can use points with a variety of airlines/hotels.

Amex Blue participates in "Membership rewards options", but you need twice as many points as you would for "membership rewards"

BLUE give POINTS...but they are NOT WORTH ANYTHING UNLESS YOU WANT TO SHOP AT THE STORES THAT THEY ISSUE GIFT CERTIFICATES FOR...OR YOU WANT FREE MAGAZINES...

The DELTA MILES ARE ONLY AT 50%...so you have 5,000 POINTS...you get 2,500 miles!!!

But I got MONEY MAGAZINE for 1,200 POINTS...that is like $12.00

$50.00 GIFT CERTIFICATE for LINENS AND THINGS FOR 5,000 POINTS

Don't cancel it. You have already taken a "hard" inquiry on your credit report. A cancellation by consumer so soon after you applied will look bad.

Get the card, use it twice, throw it in the drawer, and then cancel it in a year. This is better than canceling it now.

You need to protect your FICO score from unnecessary activity, and this is definitely unnecessary, at least for a year.

    Good luck!

But it hasn't even been activated. How would that affect his FICO?

Doesn't matter. He applied for it--that is where the hard inquiry shows, and hard inquiries affect the FICO score.

I was referring to this part of your post:
How does it "look bad" when it shouldn't even show up on the report as a cancellation? The card was not activated.

A card does NOT have to be "ACTIVATED" to show on a credit report!!!

It will say open 07/03 closed 07/03

"IF" SOMEBODY LOOKS AT YOUR CREDIT REPORT WITH THEIR EYES...THEY MAY THINK YOU MIGHT DO THAT TO THEM ALSO...

I HAD A CARD SHOW UP ON MY CREDIT REPORTS BEFORE I GOT THE CARD IN THE MAIL!!!!
