I am about to apply for a credit card from Bank of America. My credit score is 700+ with all three credit repositories, but also have a pesky (8.5 year old) unpaid tax lien. Is applying for Plat. shooting too high? If I am denied for Plat. would the bank consider the application for another credit product, such as gold or classic. Any comments / recommendations would be appreciated.
They pull from TU. My brother applied for Gold and was approved for platinum with 8.9% intro and bal transfer rate.
Geo - I got the same deal on a BoA Plat. on 06/05/03. I applied online and got approved in 2 days. My CL is $6300. My TU FICO is 716 with one closed FCNB account that I'd have to sell my soul to the devil to get removed. LOL! John - Good luck and keep us posted! Lisa
I'd think that the lein would affect approval or denail triger, but I dont think it would get you approved for a gold and not a platinum... i mean to say that if they were willing to give you a 5,000+ Limit, i doubt that the tax lein would make a diffrentiation between old and silver
i can speak with some authority here. I was approved last month for BofA plat with several old tax liens on my reports. The most recent was in 1997. Some liens show paid, others don't. These liens have not stopped me from getting credit with BofA, Citibank, MBNA, Fleet, Advanta and First National of Omaha with limits totaling well over 100K.
I forgot to mention that I didn't actually apply for BofA, they called me and said that I was pre-approved. I have a checking account with them.
Are you telling they look into your checking account without your consent? I have two checking accounts with BoFA one from 95 other one from 98. I wonder if having those accounts changes anything.
No question that they based the offer on my checking account history. They ran down the terms of the account and said thank you very much. Your card will arrive in 10 days. They didn't ask about employment, income or anything else. Now that I think of it, they didn't even verify that it was me they were talking to.
