I applied for Amex Green on 8/7, and received the further processing message. Received a letter 8/14 stating that I was declined due to "Charge off in the last 12 months". Today I called in and talked to a CSR, and explained that the charge off was in fact on 8/2000. After a recent dispute of the charge off with Equifax, they lost the charge off date. Amex was going by the last reported date (7/2002). I talked with her a bit, and she insisted that I needed to correct the item with Equifax or the OC. I started to argue and she said "please hold while I talk to a supervisor". After she came back, she said that I would be approved and I would be receiving my card on or before 8/30. Persistance sure pays off sometimes... <rant> On a side note, I got my $4k limit BofA card in the mail today. I called and tried to get the interest rate lowered from 10.99% to 9.99% but the CSR said that I would have to wait 6-12 months. I gave up since I won't be carrying a balance anyway. I swear I'm gonna stop applying real soon now. It's just so hard when I have been getting approved for limits $4k+ after not being able to get anything for so long. This brings my list of recent (since June) approvals to: $5k platinum FUSA 9.99%, $5k FUSA Kiss card 11.74% lowered to 9.99%, BofA $4k 10.99%, GMCard $4k (just upped to $5k) 15.49%, Target 12.99% $700. thanks for listening </rant>
Matt, If you do not mind me asking how did you get your scores to move that much in such a short amount of time?
The major score boosts came from getting negatives removed (worst report had 3, so it wasn't THAT bad), and being added as an AU on other people's cards. My TU report is high because of no negs, my Equifax report has one negative but I have an AU account on there for a FUSA card that is 9 years old, and my Experian report has one negative and a couple of 2-3 year AU accounts. I had a 743 score on Equifax while my one negative there was in dispute.. boy will I be happy in January of 2005 when that is gone for good
