    Hi, everyone!

Reading this board inspired me to try for better cards and credit terms, and here are the results:

    Amex Gold Rewards - Approved
    B of A Platinum Visa - Approved ($3000)
Dell Financial Svcs - Approved ($4000)

    Fleet Platinum Edge - Pending
    Citi Platinum Sel - Pending
    Citi Diamond Pref - Pending
Citi Gold World AA - Pending
    Chase Platinum - Pending

I applied for Citi Platinum Sel, Gold World AA, and Chase Platinum via pre-approved/selected offers, as well as a Bank of America pre-approved offer. The others I applied for online. What kills me is Fleet - I have a year-old Classic Visa w/them which has perfect payment history, as well as a banking relationship and line of credit with them which are over 7 years old. I have bank accounts with Citi, too.

What do you think my chances of being approved for the "pending" app's? I think I went overboard with the inquiries, and will not apply for anymore credit for a while.

Do not be too worried about pending applications with a company you already have a card with. Sometimes that is standard operating procedure. I applied for a BofA in June and got instant approval for 4000. I applied for another BofA card. It was pending for 8 days. They told me that if you already have a card with them, they stop and look at their internal records. I got approved for 11000 on the second card. I just applied for the second card 1 and half weeks ago.

    Congratulations!!

Don't be surprised if you're turned down for one of the Citi cards. I think they only allow 2 applications in 60 days.

I didn't get approved for any of the Citi cards, and when I called CS to ask why, she was a bit snotty...anyhow, she said because I had an old credit account closed by them back in 1993. I explained that it was a college card I opened in 1988, and that was the reason for my irresponsibility. The acct was never charged-off, and I paid the full balance they were asking for in January 1996. The CS told me it doesn't matter that it was 10 years ago, or paid in full - as long as it was closed by Citibank, I do not qualify for any of their cards. She also went on to tell me it doesn't matter that I have a checking and money market acct with them (only a year old, though). Does that sound right?

I wasted 4 inquiries on TU with them. Had I known I'd automatically be disqualified for a 10-year old mistake (it's not even a BK), I wouldn't have bothered :(

I think you should go to PlanetFeedback and ask for reconsideration. Especially since the account is paid off.

Alternatively, you could call back and ask for a supervisor and try to make your case.

If it wasn't paid off I could understand, but I thought they were OK if they had been paid off.

You might want to go for reconsideration on only one of them and see how it goes. They might not have liked you applying for so much credit at the same time.

Hi, thanks for the reply :)

I've had a checking acct w/overdraft line of credit with them for years, and now have a Classic Visa (will be a year old next month, no lates ever). I was declined for the Platinum because according to the CS, I'm not eligible for more than 1 account yet. I did get a $2000 increase, and he said that in about a month or so, I will be getting an offer to upgrade my card to Platinum.

Again, had I known that I wouldn't have bothered wasting an inquiry (Experian).

    Thanks, Butch :)

I also got a Bloomingdale's card, but I do shop there frequently. It's the only store card I really want, besides Ann Taylor but will wait a year for that one.

I got rejected by Chase, but the CS was so sweet and told me exactly which accounts to dispute with TU, and told me to reapply w/the new report. I was surprised she told me exactly which ones were holding me back!

Also, I got my welcome kits from American Express, Bank of America and Bloomies via email - what a pick-me-up :)

    Hedwig,

Do you think I'll need the cancelled check? It's been 7+ years, and probably don't have the final bill to accompany it.

It's funny, at the same time in 1988, I opened an Amex Green Card for college students, which I also messed-up (had to get my parents to bail me out of that one). It was closed and paid-off by me/my parents in 1990, and now I get approved for a Gold Card. They seem much nicer than Citibank.

    BTW, Amex pulled Experian (695).

    That's interesting ...

My friend went 90+ day late on his Amex Green card in 1994; later paid off in full. Once paid, Amex closed the account. To this day he does not get any preapproved offers from Amex, and his credit is now stellar (738 Equifax FICO) ... but he does get other offers from Citi, Chase, MBNA, Fleet, etc...

Perhaps 10 yrs seem to be the magic mark for Amex blacklist ??

I would hope that they show that the account is paid off, so you shouldn't need your check. If they don't show it paid, I'm sure the check would help if you could still get your hands on it.

    Re: Re: Approved!!!!

Wondering out loud if I maybe denied. Over 20 years ago, I had a Amex green and was late and even NSF on them but always made good. On what was to be my last billing cycle I paid them and they promptly canceled my account.

If anyone has any insight into this please let me know.

Hate to waste an inq if I'm going to be denied.

    Best regards,
    Mirage

    Re: Re: Approved!!!!

I thought AMEX would consider you as long as you had paid them back everything you owed. The full amount, not a settlement for a lesser amount.

I hope so! After not applying for anything prime for 7 years (bk-13 just dropped) really parniod. Just need a little confidence from my fellow CNs.

I'm pretty sure when I apply for Amex it's going to be TU. Hoping to apply for the Green and Blue Cash at the same time.

    Best regards,
    Mirage

We got behind on a green charge around 96. They closed the card and we paid 100 a month for nearly 4 years until it was paid in full. They didn't charge interest or fees and it is not on our reports. I just got a gold rewards, fee waived, and a blue cash 5000 limit. Actually the card was on dh but he is au on card. YMMV as George says.

I don't get any "PRE-APPROVED" offers either from AMEX (EXCEPT OPEN DELTA FOR SMALL BUSINESS)--I DON'T QUALIFY...MY BUSINESS EXCEEDS THE "SMALL" RULES...

    GEORGE,

Maybe you need to find a business that you could start. Then you could get business credit. Or maybe someone in your household could start a business.
