I get Letters from Mann and Bracken from Ga. I live in SC. Their web says they are licensed to practice in GA,MD and Va??? (3 states). Is what they are doing legal and how can they get away with it? They same thing goes for Wolpoff and Abramson??

If the debt originated in a state where they are licensed, they can dun you and they can sue you in that state. Nevermind that you are in another state.

An attorney's long arm could reach into another country even (using the Hague convention).

    Nusteem,

    Go track down Nanac.

    At "Nana's Notions".

She's done a lot of work on this issue.

    Welcome.

    :)

no, they have to sue you in your home state...not where they are licensed...you always get home court advantage.

    polly want a cracker?
(sorry, couldnt help it. I'll bet no one gets that joke)

    Anyway....
Nusteem, send them a validation demand CRRR. be nice about it. Just say something along the lines of "you must have made some mistake. I am disputing the validity of this debt. Please investigate and write me back. thank you"

then, read your eyes out for awhile here.

    I got it.

And isn't there something about quoting people without giving credit?

Of course, as I think you implied, some people just like to hear (or see) themselves.

actually i am dealing with them now......i suggest you send validation ASAP! I didn't know about this board when they dun me and about two months later i was served with a summons. Not trying to scare you...but i want to make sure that you do it like i should have done. You have the advantage that i didn't....you know about these boards and the wonderful people here that can help you. Also check out this site http://www.budhibbs.com ...go to "bad CA" it is listed almost like that...bud hibbs basically says that this particular agency is known for scaring people into paying a debt...but making them sign a new contract with them...so they can use arbitration against you....and the site goes into detail about them. On CB most of the people who DV....they never received another notice from them. Hope this helps.
