    hello everyone!!

I'm not sure how to go about trying to find out if a ca is licensed to collect in my state. Does anyone have any information on how I can do this. I'm getting ready to jump on the collection agencies and I want to make sure that I'm a little educated before I do. any help would be appreciated.

Try this link. Some states have online search capabilities, but even if not, you can find the contact info for the regulating agency (if any) in your state.

    dave,

I tried your link. very nice information you provided. I appreciate it. I could not find anything for this collection agency in the state of pennsylvania which is were I reside. also, from one of there recent letters I received they had two different address, one in minnesota and one in macon GA, I found them licensed in Georgia, but not in Minnesota. If I'm understanding this correctly they are not even lincensed in my state to collect this debt? I'm I assuming correctly? I if I'm wrong please set me straight.

DO NOT BRING THIS TO THEIR ATTENTION! You could use this as legal ammunition should you have to sue them in court or vice versa. It would be very easy to get properly licensed if you notify them of this, they'll go out and get one tomorrow, Now what?? If you take them to court to sue or they sue you, you can then prove they are unlicensed and sue as well for that!

    Good Luck!

Not all 50 states require CA's to be licensed in their state.

And even then, not all requirements are the same. You need to find out if PA requires this and what is required. I am not sure about PA but I do not think they require specific licensing for debt collectors.

From that link I gave you earlier, you should be able to contact someone from the PA state licensing and regulatory department...I would ask them what is required for PA.
