Is there a good letter to ask a collection agency to remove an item off my credit after it has been paid? I have a judgement that has been paid for 4 years, Providian which I settled with and one other collection agency. I would be greatful for any ideas.
Thanks George, but I guess I didn't clarify what I was thinking. I have already disputed them and did validation letters. I was thinking maybe a letter that says something like... "My wife and I are trying to get a mortgage and have worked on improving my credit rating. We had a business that failed at the time we were unable to pay you. But since you have been paid off for 4 yrs, I would like to ask you to remove it from my credit file." It's being really nice to those guys and I don't know if it will work or do you have a better idea? Any help would be great!
MORTGAGE wrong word to mention...maybe someone who has done it can help...I haven't ever had a "BADDIE"
Can anyone help? Has anyone had something removed after paying it by begging? If not tell me what works please.
I've had quite a few late-pay tradelines for fully-paid accounts removed from my credit files as have others here. I've used basically two methods for doing this (and maybe others have other tactics they'll share): 1) the "Goodwill Adjustment" method which was pioneered by marci on this board, and 2) the "Nutcase Letter" method. If you'll read through the following thread from start to finish (it will only take you 5 minutes), you'll see examples of both including sample letters: http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&pgnum=1&postid=124861 I really recommend reading the whole thread, though, because the context may help you decide which of the two methods might be most helpful in your case. To sum up, though, YES, your idea about going straight to the creditor and asking for tradeline removal for fully-paid accounts is a good one and has proven to be successful. By the way, you can find some testimonials for both methods on this board by searching the board (using the search tool at the bottom of the page) for either the term "goodwill" or "nutcase". If you pair the word "success" with either search, you'll hone in on the testimonials directly. Doc
Looks like I typed my answer at the same time you did, marci! I just wish I could be as concise -- you said what I did in a sentence.
Thank you guy so much. I will take a look at all of that. I'm sure I will get some good ideas from them.
I am new at this. I sent this letter to about 4 Creditors that show late pays via Planet feedback. It's been 1 day - waiting to see if I'll get any good results. I am writing to request assistance in regards to information pertaining to my ___ account #____ shown on my credit report. I experienced, for a period of time, financial difficulties while finishing my college education- being a single mother. Unfortunately, this caused me to be late on some of my accounts. Now that I am able, I am trying to improve my credit after going through this set back paying my accounts on time. For over the past year my payments to you have been timely and I enjoy using my ___ Card and I plan to continue to do so. I am concerned about the negative information now on my credit file. I am advised this negative information you have placed on my files could remain in my credit reports for 7 years after payment is made. However, I have the right to remove any information from this credit report through the suppliers of information. I am requesting, because of my situation, your company notify the Credit Bureaus to delete this derogatory late payment information from my files, as it does not reflect my personal willingness to pay my debts. Thank you for considering my request.
If you use the goodwill adjustment and then the crazy letter, do you eliminate the credibility of the latter? I am just starting this endeavor and really have no concept of when to go hard or soft. Thanks By the way - This site is incredible and I have learned volumes in reading everyones archives and success stories! EQ - 581 EX - 599
Shucks, marci, thank you. Actually, I'm one of those people who never knows what to do when somebody says something nice! (Warning: neurotic rambling is about to follow.) Nice comments usually feel something like being in the annual school play in the 5th grade, and while staring at the audience you suddenly realize that your arms are just dangling there and you don't know quite what to do with them, so you just stand there rigidly with a frozen smile on your face and continue staring.
