Has anyone dealt with them? They claim my father owes them $2K. They claim it's from a credit card account. He probably does owe this money. Does anyone know if they will settle and delete?

    author_22,

Asset Acceptance Corp is a collection agency and they try to collect charge-off accounts from The Broadway Dept Store (out of business). They made a hard inquiry in my Experian before they sent me a collection letter. My advice is: If your charge-off account is over 7 yrs and it is not in your credit reports. Ignore them and avoid them.

The problem is, that it just showed up on all three of dad's reports. It says it is for Providian. Darn it. We just got 11 deletions for CHOD and only had left a 5/1995 medclr (and 2 duplications) on EQ.

What should he do? He might owe $300 of this in GOODS but the rest is trumped up late and overlimit fees from 1996. Of course, Asset says the last date of activity was 12/1999.

Yeah that's what I guess we have to do. Sigh. I hate validation letters.

They were trying to collect money from me on some bogus account. Best thing to do is to validate. Be sure to send it RR or Fed/Ex. I would also suggest sending them a faxed copy of the letter as well. Once they get the letter, they will send the account back to where it came from and they will delete.

    author_22,

Hmm...that's the problem.Did he remember that he owe the money with Providian? Did he call Providian to find out how much he owe? He forgot to pay them a time. Try to talk with Providian and try to settle with them. Try to avoid Asset? As you know collection agency are nasty.

    Good luck.

    Ron.
