Hi all, I just found out that my dh and I have to deal with the lawyer/collection agency because the City of Philly turned our account over to them. I was told by a rep. at the City of Phila. Dept of Revenue that they are not governed by the FDCPA and therefore because we were sent to this collection agency/lawyer we would have to deal only with them. I am so upset!!!!!! My dh and I made honest attempts to pay this tax and because of incompetence at the Dept. of Rev. we are now in collections with a lawyer/collectin agency. Leesa, If i remember you have copies of everything, correct?: If this is the case, you will be fine. It will probably take some correspondence though with the atty/ca. The taxes are paid , but being reported wrong, correct. They still have to list them correctly if they are reporting them to the cra's. Maybe someone has a letter already, that we can modify? Uniondiva, Luckily it is not being reported to any CRAs so far. This has been going on since '99 and the interest and penalty total $3451.02 and the tax is only $2732.98. We paid $1000.42 and only $34.00 went to the tax. I am trying to get it waived but with the City of Phila. paying the lawyer/ca to collect the full amount it doesn't look like we will it waived. have you tried dealing with local politician? sometimes a call to city council/alderman can help get a response? why not try it, if you haven't already.. they may be able to get some thing done that you cannot.
